I am interested in what it means to make a picture in this time of pervasive uncertainty about the future. Creating work that feels provisional and process-focused gives me space to play with the ideas that make up my reality. Lately I have been playing with a poetic imaging of webs and systems that allow the imagined to clothe the unimaginable, to “see” and intuit a material image for the abstract and invisible powers we depend on. For example, what does the internet look like? This is our modern divination practice: we go to ask for knowledge, guidance, and intervention from invisible core webs that exist outside our touch and sight, webs that host a galaxy of random information fragments. My images and marks occur within a practiced random process. I stop the process to select and pay attention to chosen design elements, then overlay the work with random images again. In my work, I explore how we curate our sense of reality from the ideas that proliferate in our lives, and the nature of attention itself that chooses what to hold and what to let fall.
